Illawarra Primary School has 18 teaching staff and caters for 339 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school's address is Tinderbox Road BLACKMANS BAY 7052. Phone (03) 6229 6295.

Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Illawarra Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 33% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Illawarra Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 23.

Information about Illawarra Primary School (provided by the school)
Illawarra Primary opened in September 1988 in Blackmans Bay. The school is approximately 16 kilometres drive from Hobart in the growing municipality of Kingborough. The location of the school allows easy access to Blackmans Bay Beach and the Peter Murrell Bush Reserve and class programs are enriched by access to these environments. There are two Kindergarten groups and 12 classes, Prep to Grade 6. At Illawarra we believe the very best we can do is make our students literate, numerate, thinking individuals who have the personal confidence to contribute to society in a way that is positive and ethical. Our students achieve highly in academic areas, sports, and the arts. Our Supportive environment is based on a shared understanding of the rights and responsibilities of students, parents and teachers. Three questions are the basis of all school rules: Is it Safe? Is it Fair? Does it Show you Care? All are encouraged to use these questions to guide their choices and behaviour. Literacy and Numeracy learning has particular priority and Illawarra students are also involved in a number of enrichment programs such as The Outdoor classroom, online learning for gifted students, Mathematics competitions or Science research, Italian language classes and a variety of sports, including skipping. Students can participate in choirs, recorder and guitar groups. The brass program is open to students in Grade 5 and 6. Senior students have many leadership roles including as Daily PE leaders and Student mediators. There is a high degree of parent support and community involvement at Illawarra Primary School and this is encouraged at all levels. Teachers encourage and welcome parents and community members to become involved in the learning programs through working in classrooms, School Association, assisting with sports, excursions, helping in the canteen or school vegetable garden, attending curriculum workshops and becoming literacy buddies. The success of the Illawarra community rests firmly on a shared understanding that it is our children's wellbeing and their success, which must be at the centre of all we do.
