Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Huonville Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 18% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Huonville Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 20.

Information about Huonville Primary School (provided by the school)
Huonville Area School opened in 1940 and catered for children from Kindergarten to about year 9 or 10. In 1957, the Area School was split into the Huonville High and Huonville Primary Schools, each with its own Principal. Secondary school students from a wide area were transported in to the high school for a broader curriculum which included languages and commercial subjects. A new site was developed for Huonville Primary students. The Huonville Infant Department remained in the older buildings further along Wilmot Road until redevelopment brought the two sectors together in 1995. The school is now situated adjacent to its associated secondary school and borders extensive outdoor community recreational facilities. The majority of students travel to and from school by bus. Our Students The socially diverse background of the students enriches the culture of the school. Currently the student enrolment is around 470 students from Kindergarten to grade 6. Approximately 50 of our students are of Aboriginal background. All students are supported to achieve their potential through many supplementary and enrichment programs.
