Goulburn Street Primary School has 11 teaching staff and caters for 181 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school's address is Forest Road WEST HOBART 7000. Phone (03) 6234 1884.

Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Goulburn Street Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 61% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Goulburn Street Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 20.

Information about Goulburn Street Primary School (provided by the school)
Goulburn Street Primary School is a great little primary school located only 10 minutes from the heart of Hobart. Approximately 200 students attend in classes ranging from Kindergarten to Year 6. Students, regardless of individual difference, are encouraged to achieve the highest quality educational outcomes and to become independent learners, developing confidence and skills that will continue throughout their lives. Having celebrated over 155 years of public education, the school continues to deliver excellent educational programs that focus on all areas of the Tasmanian curriculum, including Music (regular class lessons, choirs, recorder ensembles and Woodwind), Flying Start, Extended Learning Programs or gifted and able students, Phys-Ed (including Daily PE), and Italian. Other specialised programs include the Combined Primary School Dance event, Tournament of Minds, the Combined Primary School band and Choir, a Chess club, Tennis lessons, Drama Club and individual piano lessons. An After School Hours Care program, conducted by sponsors Lady Gowrie Inc., operates from the school site. The school attracts no additional funds for educational programs, apart from the usual Tasmanian Education Department general grant. This is because we are a high achieving, inner-city school that has been assessed as having students from high socio- economic backgrounds. Goulburn Street receives no additional funds that other schools may receive to support individual learning programs. However, we cater for students with additional needs through good budgeting, resource management and a hard working, committed and dedicated staff who attempt to cater for all learning needs. The funding for these programs is made up from the annual resource package (including funds carried over from 2008). The school has a very strong tradition of including parent/carers in all aspects of school life. A very enthusiastic School Association includes parents, staff and community members. The Association supports the school in a range of activities including, assistance in classrooms, with excursions, with fundraising activities, the development of the Strategic Plan and policies and with special events such as sports carnivals and the school fair (held bi-annually). During 2009 one special activity will see a small group of parents engaged the development of a school community vegetable garden. During 2008 the Association, in response to various media reports about school amalgamations, explored the option of working more closely with nearby schools. After a year long exploratory process the parent community strongly recommended to the Minister for Education that there was a consensus from the whole community that Goulburn Street Primary School should continue to stand alone. The school community have strongly indicated that they are extremely pleased and proud of the success of current programs offered to their children, whether they be academic, cultural, social or physical. They also concluded that distances between local schools is a huge barrier to sharing facilities. Parents also determined that they would continue to support the school, building on its outstanding achievements and spreading the message that it continues to grow from ’strength to strength’.
