Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Glen Huon Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 56% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Glen Huon Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 17.

Information about Glen Huon Primary School (provided by the school)
Glen Huon Primary school is situated in the Huon Valley. The school has been educating children (and adults!) since opening in 1880. The school services the farming area of the valley reaching from Lonnavale, through Judbury to the Huon Highway. Many of our families are involved in rural industries such as small fruit growing and aquaculture whilst others are employed in forestry. Increasingly families have selected our valley as a tranquil and beautiful place to bring up their families. In 2009, the school has 119 students, 10 teaching staff, 4 teacher aides, a school executive officer and school attendant The school offers specialist music lessons with opportunities for flute, trombone and clarinet lessons in Year 5 and 6 and specialist physical education teacher. All students from Year 3 - 6 learn French. There is a landcare area, community vegetable garden and bush tucker trail which all form part of our playground. The kindergarten operates on Mondays and Tuesdays. We also run three early learning sessions for children from birth to four. We are proud that our class sizes in the early childhood area are small, around 22, with primary classes around 25.
