Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Franklin Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 51% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Franklin Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 27.

Information about Franklin Primary School (provided by the school)
Franklin Primary School was established in 1860 making it one of the oldest schools in the state. Franklin Primary is a small rural school in a beautiful setting on the Huon River, just 8 km south of Huonville south of Hobart. We have around 120 students from Kindergarten to Year Six. Franklin Primary School is an inclusive school that aims to provide children with a diverse and stimulating education within a supportive environment. Strong partnerships between students, parents, staff and the wider community are central in making positive differences in the lives and choices of our students through a balanced, purposeful and relevant curriculum. Our school community and local environment are wonderful resources to draw upon and play an important role in programs and initiatives such as rowing, sailing and outdoor pursuits. Links with the Living Boat Trust, Eldercare and the Palais Theatre help to forge strong connections within our community. A well established music and drama program is a feature of the school, with students performing in bands, concerts and plays throughout the year. A specialist PE program is complemented by Daily PE which is organised by grade six students.
