Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Albuera Street Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 32% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Albuera Street Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 23.

Information about Albuera Street Primary School (provided by the school)
Albuera Street Primary School was established in 1853. It has a proud history of providing high quality education services to generations of students in Hobart. Albuera Street is an inner city school with an enrolment that remains constant at around 200 students. Our school community is quite diverse. Our student population is derived from the local Sandy Bay/Battery Point area and also includes a significant proportion of students from greater Hobart whose parents choose the school because of its excellent reputation and proximity to the city and University of Tasmania. We are fortunate to have students from many different cultural and language backgrounds who enrich our community. We aim for all students to participate in and enjoy a broad, balanced curriculum which caters for the whole child, and to achieve their personal best. Our record for educational achievement is soundly based as this performance report indicates. In reading the report we encourage people to consider the Achievement information as well as the Overall Progress. Our community values positive achievement in the key areas of English/literacy and Maths/numeracy and also has a strong commitment to The Arts, Civics and Citizenship and personal development which we believe will prepare our students for life in the 21st Century. Each year we strive to carry over sufficient funds to ensure we are able to continue to offer specialist programs in the coming year. At Albuera Street we have a strong commitment to working in partnership with parents and our community to achieve the best possible outcomes. We have an active School Association and parents are encouraged to participate in many areas of school life. There is a strong, positive sense of community at our school. We aim to build caring and supportive relationships, positive and high expectations and opportunities for meaningful participation and achievement for everyone.
