Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Bicheno Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 33% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Bicheno Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 19.

Information about Bicheno Primary School (provided by the school)
Bicheno Primary School is a small school of less than one hundred students situated on the East Coast of Tasmania in the township of Bicheno. The school has a very supportive school community and wider community. The curriculum is structured on differentiation and provides multiple areas of extension in learning. A base for all student learning is through music that has a foundation in percussion. Students are provided with 2 structured music classes a week and have the opportunity to access tutoring in guitar and piano as well as be involved in the school and East Coast choirs. Bicheno offers a language program that studies 4 languages (Bahasa, French, German and pigeon English) and is an integral part of the literacy plan. The size of the school does pose a challenge for the development of larger sporting teams, however, this opens up possibilities for other sports and activities to be studied. The collection of accurate testing data for cohorts is difficult due to the size of the student cohort.
