Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Kempton Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 81% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Kempton Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 11.

Information about Kempton Primary School (provided by the school)
The school was established in the 1830’s, making it one of (if not) the oldest still-operating primary schools in the state, although it has occupied a number of different sites since then. Kempton Primary is a small rural school of 40 students servicing an area 50 km north of Hobart. Its small size, its rural nature and the issues relating to these provide the context in which the data was drawn. There is a strong emphasis on teaching literacy and numeracy with a dedicated allocation of time for each. Other important focus is our Healthy Mind Healthy Body Program that promotes student resilience (social and emotional skilling) and improving health outcomes (nutrition and fitness). The school community lives by its motto, ‘Together we Strive’, by working cooperatively in many different ways. There is a diverse range of talent and skills among Kempton locals who happily contribute their wonderful resource in support, enabling us to operate as a true community school. Kempton village boasts heritage attractions, a municipal agency, hotel, resident doctor and police, representatives of which work closely to help meet the needs of the school and community members.
