Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Bothwell District High School has carried over the equivalent of 88% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Bothwell District High School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 15.

Information about Bothwell District High School (provided by the school)
Bothwell District High is a rural K-10 school situated in the Central Highlands, 74 kilometres north of Hobart and 15 minutes from the main highway. The school is located on one campus incorporating a small farm, a 25 metre swimming pool and a full-sized gymnasium. Literacy and Numeracy are priorities within the curriculum as are maintaining a supportive school environment, a welfare and behaviour policy and inclusion. A Japanese program is offered to primary students. Promoting leadership skills with the secondary students is important and enrichment/ vocational education programs have a high profile and on-line learning is also available. Due to the relative isolation of the school and community, there is a strong focus on interaction with neighbouring schools. Having strong community ties is seen as essential and involving community members in school programs is emphasised. Launching into Learning is a valued program operating in the school gathering up children in the Birth-4 years age groups. An Active After School program is available twice weekly to primary students with many sports and visiting coaches and sports coordinators being an important part of the program.
