Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Bagdad Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 44% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Bagdad Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 22.

Information about Bagdad Primary School (provided by the school)
Bagdad Primary School is situated in a rural setting 35 kilometres north of Hobart. The student population of 150 has remained fairly stable and this is due in part to the Brighton area expanding and the fact that families wish to have their children educated in a relatively small school. The majority of students travel to and from school by bus. There are six class groups and most of these are composite in nature. There are 13 teachers including Music and Physical Education itinerant staff. The staff also includes 2 clerical staff, 5 teacher assistants and 2 ancillary staff. The school places a strong emphasis on supporting families by providing a welcoming and supportive school environment. We encourage active parental participation in children’s learning through such areas as the School Association and the canteen as well as parental help within classrooms. The school provides a comprehensive learning program that addresses the components of the Tasmanian Curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills to each student which is achieved through dedicated literacy and numeracy teaching time each day and through other areas of the curriculum.
