Distance Education Tasmania has 23 teaching staff and caters for 245 students from Kindergarten to Year 10. The school's address is 26 Lampton Avenue DERWENT PARK 7009. Phone (03) 6233 7786.

Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Distance Education Tasmania has carried over the equivalent of 29% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Distance Education Tasmania for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 9.

Information about Distance Education Tasmania (provided by the school)
Distance Education Tasmania (DET) has a proud tradition of providing quality education to students. In partnership with Learning Services and local schools, DET delivers innovative learning programs that maximise individual success. Our school Distance Education Tasmania (DET) provides for approximately 300 K-10 students who cannot attend a regular school because they are geographically isolated, itinerant, travelling interstate or overseas, have medical problems, are pregnant or have new babies. A small number of students who cannot attend a school due to significant personal circumstances may be enrolled under the ‘exceptional circumstances’ criterion. Our school population is geographically and culturally diverse. We use flexible modes of communication, learning technologies and community connections to maximise engagement with learning, and improve student outcomes. Our aim is to enable all students to become lifelong learners who contribute to their communities. Our services Registration Program: This service enables schools to register students at DET, when it is believed that access to DET staff and resources is likely to improve the student's access, participation and educational outcomes. Access to the DET Registration program is on a fee-for-service basis. Hospital Schools: DET operates an education service in the Paediatric wards during weekday mornings at the Royal Hobart and Launceston General Hospitals. The service caters for approximately 1200 students each year. Home Education support: DET provides learning materials for those families who are registered with the Tasmanian Home Education Advisory Service (THEAC).
