Geilston Bay High School has 22 teaching staff and caters for 246 students from Year 7 to Year 10. The school's address is 271 East Derwent Highway GEILSTON BAY 7015. Phone (03) 6243 8633.

Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Geilston Bay High School has carried over the equivalent of 16% of its annual resourcing package.

Information about Geilston Bay High School (provided by the school)
Geilston Bay High School's spacious, well-equipped and maintained buildings are situated in beautiful, open grounds overlooking Geilston Bay and the Derwent River beyond. Since opening in 1972, both the school buildings and the programs offered have been adapted to suit the needs of students and teachers. The design and organisation of Geilston Bay High School offer the flexibility of individual classrooms for traditional, structured lessons and some larger spaces for integrated, group or special activities. The current school population of around two hundred and seventy students easily allows for the maintenance of a pleasant, well-organised environment and the continued fostering of a caring student-centred atmosphere. Students are able to use a wide range of resources and equipment, as well as conduct activities in a variety of well-resourced facilities. Geilston Bay High School is recognised in the wider community as a school which not only cares for individual students’ needs and strives for excellence from each student, but also equips students for adulthood by fostering each individual's potential to enjoy a full and rewarding life. It is a school with a strong sense of community responsibility and personal commitment which provides a very broad range of educational and social programs for its many students, linking them with “real world” needs and the personal and social responsibilities of the future. Our purpose is learning and teaching in a supportive environment. The school provides a curriculum that emphasises intellectual, social and emotional development, together with character development and the values and skills of citizenship. The school promotes each student's self discipline in relation to learning and behaviour. There is an emphasis on building a climate for learning by encouraging in each student a strong sense of belonging. This is achieved by developing high quality relationships between staff and students based on a mutual recognition and respect of their respective rights and responsibilities; and by providing a safe and secure environment for all. The school strives to consistently improve each student's learning outcomes, based on the expectation that all students can achieve high personal standards with adequate time and appropriate support. A significant challenge for Geilston Bay High School is to bring together, in a positive, productive and supportive environment, students from diverse social backgrounds. Typically, the bulk of the student population is made up of students from Geilston Bay, Lindisfarne, Risdon Vale, Bridgewater and Gagebrook.
