Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Forest Primary School has carried over the equivalent of 38% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Forest Primary School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 19.

Forest Primary is a rural school in the Circular Head municipality in North West Tasmania. Currently we have 133 students in Kinder to grade 6. The community is predominantly supported through primary industry, with vegetable growing, beef and dairy farming being the main form of community activity. 95% of our students travel to and from school on buses which service a large home area- from Smithton to Detention River and Stanley turn off to Lileah. Forest Primary has strong parent involvement, with commitment to formal groups such as Parents and Friends and School association. together with this we have cooperative partnerships occurring in classrooms and canteen along with our in-school aquatics program. Forest Primary is well resourced with a committed teaching staff of 9 teachers( including a fulltime Literacy coordinator) across 6 classes. Our non teaching staff total 8 and they perform a variety of roles including student support, administration and school attendant. To support our k-6 programs we have a B-4 group who meet once a week, Link programs for pre Kinder students, and an outstanding after school care facility which is licensed for 15 students. As mentioned previously the school has a gymnasium and swimming pool which are used frequently by students and the community. We also have a school farm and ongoing wetland rehabilitation.
