Acton School has 20 teaching staff and caters for 206 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school's address is Thorne Street BURNIE 7320. Phone (03) 6431 4095. Schools receive an annual resource package for the purpose of providing educational programs for students throughout that year. Schools may also receive other funding from the Department as well as receiving income from other sources. Generally, like the resource package, these funds should be used in the year that they are received. However, in some circumstances, schools may need to carry funds over from one year to the next. A reasonable carry over is 25% of a school's annual resourcing package. As at January 31 2009, Acton School has carried over the equivalent of 88% of its annual resourcing package. Schools also receive additional funding to help reduce early years class sizes. The average class size at Acton School for groups containing Prep and Year 1 students is 23. Information about Acton School (provided by the school) Acton School is situated in Burnie in the north-west of the state of Tasmania. Acton originally had accommodation for 700 students but over recent years the original classrooms mostly have been converted to spacious learning classrooms and areas. The grounds are spacious, and include the use of football and cricket grounds owned by the Burnie Council. At present our enrolment is 220 students. We are one of the few schools offering 3 days kindergarten to all students. We have approximately thirty students birth to four years of age regularly involved in programs with their parents/ carers prior to attending our school. The formal zoning boundaries draw families from the older Acton area a popular area for first home buyers. Included also is Shorewell Park which originally was a state housing development but now includes a mixture of privately owned homes, private rental homes and Housing Tasmania rentals. We are a family friendly school offering to all students an extremely healthy breakfast for twenty cents, a daily shared fruit program that parents contribute to at the rate of $1 weekly per family and we operate on three days per week a healthy additive and preservative free low cost canteen. We offer after-school care which is income tested and a free active after school program twice weekly. Over the last eight years we have entered into partnerships with many government and local businesses. In these last three years we have continuously improved significant value added gains in literacy, numeracy and access to learning for all students. View School Results
